molded cellulose
Complex objects made from molded cellulose
Molded cellulose has been used for many years for the manufacture of low value-added packaging in massive quantities, such as egg cartons. The goal of our researchers is to extend its use to complex packaging and products by minimizing current constraints with new prototyping techniques.
Thanks to their research, the teams were able to identify the most suitable polymers and develop a 3D printer taking into account the constraints of high thermal resistance.
The filter molds obtained have similar filtration behavior to conventional metal mesh molds.
Following the protocol defined by the researchers, a semi-automatic bench was developed, and a robotic unit for the functionalization of molded cellulose objects was designed.
